Hello Gateway Family and Friends,
Hurricane Dorian was one of the most powerful hurricanes on record and has devastated the Bahamas. While we are grateful that Florida was spared from the fury of the storm our hearts go out to those who have suffered so greatly in the Bahamas. You can provide direct support for the people of the Bahamas through our Baptist Global Relief (BGR). Go to Hurricane Dorian Response to give or to find out more information. You can also designate an amount for “Dorian Relief” on your giving envelope. You might consider giving based on what we were spared through Dorian’s eastern track. You might find this interesting: The people of the Bahamas are 69.9% protestant and Baptists are the largest group among protestants making up 34.9% of protestants and 24% of the islands’ population.
WHO’S YOUR ONE?
With the passing of Dorian, we are back to our regular schedule, but not to our old routine! We begin an evangelistic emphasis this Sunday called, Who’s Your One? This emphasis has been initiated through our North American Mission Board, and several of us attended the Orlando rally and worship on August 25-26. The purpose of this initiative is to call Christians to commit to sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ with other people. You begin by committing to pray for and share the Good News with one person. This Sunday morning, we will have a place in the foyer for you to write the name of your “one” on a white ping pong ball. We will display these in a clear container so that we can visually see our commitment to following Jesus. In the coming weeks we will have orange ping pong balls available for you to write the name of an individual that you have shared the Good News with.
LET’S FOLLOW JESUS
We will begin Disciple’s Path: The Journey on Sunday night September 15 at 6:00 p.m. This will be a life-changing year-long study of what it means to know and follow Jesus. If you have not participated in an in-depth discipleship study before, I would urge you to join us. We are all called not just to be believers, or church members, but to be disciples of Jesus Christ learning to do all that he has commanded us to do (Matthew 28:19-20). You can order Book 1 (3.95) or the 4-volume set (9.95) at lifeway.com. Order your book ASAP so that you can receive it in time for our September 15 meeting. If you are not able to order online call Dyanne at 407-644-7741. If you are not able to join us on Sunday evenings contact me about alternative ways to be a part of this journey.
We will have Baptism Sunday on September 15. This will be a great day to celebrate those who have professed their faith in Jesus as Lord and Savior and are following him in believer’s baptism. If you have not been baptized by immersion since you have come to personal faith in Jesus Christ, we invite you to be baptized September 15. For more information contact me or Dyanne in the church office. You can message through chat here on the Band, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org, or text to 407-644-7741.
ALL THINGS TO ALL PEOPLE TO SAVE SOME
As summer comes to and end and we begin to turn towards the fall season, I encourage you to recommit yourself and turn towards full engagement in following Jesus. Our key verse for revitalization was 1 Corinthians 9:22 where Paul said that he had become “all things to all people so that by every possible means he might save some.” Begin to turn toward full engagement by asking yourself what I have I changed in my life since the fall of 2017 to win people to Christ? What changes have I resisted, that have kept me from winning people to Christ?
1 CORINTHIANS 9: 19-23
“Although I am free from all and not anyone’s slave, I have made myself a slave to everyone, in order to win more people. To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win Jews; to those under the law, like one under the law—though I myself am not under the law—to win those under the law. To those who are without the law, like one without the law—though I am not without God’s law but under the law of Christ—to win those without the law. To the weak I became weak, in order to win the weak. I have become all things to all people, so that I may by every possible means save some. Now I do all this because of the gospel, so that I may share in the blessings.”
Let’s follow Jesus together,
